Accolades are a dangerous thing, because you can confuse them with the goal itself. When you start measuring your self-worth by how many certificates you have, how many people like your posts on social media, or how much people like something you create, you’re really chasing a false idol.
However, accolades can be a useful tool for many projects. They can provide social proof and lend you authority in the eyes of prospective customers, associates, friends, or romantic partners.
Therefore they should be sought after strategically and at arm’s length, with care taken not to twist them around your sense of self-worth and define yourself by them.
